Ballet is the base and building block of all great dancers. Our “Traditional Ballet” curriculum is designed for the beginner to grow into a professional. The series delves into proper technique with emphasis on body alignment and posture, classical ballet vocabulary and class etiquette, and developing the dancer to their fullest potential – not only in ballet, but in all forms of dance! The instructor offers detailed breakdowns of each move, offers corrections for common mistakes, and has students demonstrate exercises and new material. Students will learn over 140 steps throughout this series!
Our “Traditional Ballet Pointe Series” is designed for dancers with previous ballet training through our Level 4, or equivalent, and adequate ankle, calf, and arch strength. It is advised that dancers are currently taking ballet class either through “Dance: The Cutting Edge – Traditional Ballet Series” or through a studio on multiple days each week. Students will utilize previously learned ballet technique while working in pointe shoes.
Each level includes barre exercises, center floor work, and across the floor combinations. Dancers must be knowledgeable in all the ballet terminology and techniques through our “Pointe: Intermediate Level” to properly utilize this video. In the “Advanced Level”, dancers will work exclusively en pointe. They are learning professional level movements and intricate footwork patterns.
Traditional Ballet Series: Basic
“Dance: The Cutting Edge – Traditional Ballet: Basic” is the perfect knowledge-packed challenge and starting point for older beginners, ballet novices, or can be a great conditioning course alongside any of our Level 1-4 videos. Our “Basic Ballet” was conceived by Allyn Ginn Ayers, a professional dancer and dance instructor based in Miami, Florida, and member of Dance Now! Previously with Gin Dance Company, located in Washington DC, Allyn started dancing at the age of three and developed a strong background in both classical ballet and modern techniques. In all, dancers will see 47 exceptional steps! She guides her class through a full barre, Pliés to Battements, focusing on learning and perfecting the movements that truly warm the body.
Students begin to learn jumps at the barre, including those with Batu (beats) such as Entrechat Trois, Quatre, and Cinq (wow!). All five feet positions and eight body positions (a dancer’s Epaulement) are reviewed and explained. Both en Dedan (inside) and en Dehor (outside), Pirouettes are done in center, as well as a ballet dancer’s most used jumps: Pas de Chats, Grand Jetes, and Saut de Chats.
