Traditional Ballet: Level 4
“Dance: The Cutting Edge – Traditional Ballet: Level 4” truly teaches stage presence for dancers ages 11 years and older. The barre is more complex as steps are choreographed in intricate patterns to help build not only the dancer’s body, but also their mind. Level 4 is a preparation to Pre-Pointe work and therefore utilizes the most effective warm up and strengthening elements. Center work is emphasized greatly. Dancers are now executing more than 25 new steps, like Double Turns, and moving confidently through a full class pattern: Barre, Adagio, Petit Allegro, across the floor, and Grande Allegro.
The instructor offers detailed breakdowns of each move, offers corrections for common mistakes, and has students demonstrate exercises and new material. At this point, dancers are gracefully executing all eight positions of the body and Épaulement (head and shoulder placement). Kneeling is added to Reverence to stress the importance of professionalism in all settings. Our “Traditional Ballet” video series is full of exceptional learning and teaching tools stemming from the artistic vision of Elizabeth Acuña Nuevo, owner and director of Artistic Dance Center located in Doral, Florida. Elizabeth teaches Levels 1-4 alongside Nadine Barton. Nadine is currently in her fourth season with the Alabama Ballet, performing soloist and corps de ballet roles in works such as Don Quixote and Coppelia.
