Rhythm & Tap: Level 1

Sample Video

Regardless of their age, all dancers must start at the beginning level and advance as quickly as the teacher thinks they are ready. “Rhythm & Tap Level 1” is designed for dancers who range in age from 6 years old through adult. Technique is presented through controlled, syncopated movements, using every part of the shoe to make sounds. Students will learn 38 new steps in this video! Dancers will begin to move their body through Chugs, Digs, Slaps, and Cramp Rolls to start warming up their feet and learn how different weight shifts and the amount of force used to place the foot on the floor will create vastly different sounds. Other steps include Drawbacks, Buffalos, Irishes, and Maxi Fords. By combining all of these movements and sounds, the dancer learns to eventually create combinations.
Rhythm patterns, time signatures, and keeping in time with the music are the end goal for this level.

Instructing in the video is someone you may recognize from So You Think You Can Dance Season 10: Curtis Holland. Trained under professionals such as Savion Glover, Curtis is currently performing up a storm across the United States, from Oregon to New York City, where he has performed on Broadway in Mean Girls and Shuffle Along.
